New Semantics for Epistemic Specifications

چکیده

This note presents a new version of the language of epistemic specifications. The semantics of the new language is arguably closer to the intuitive meaning of epistemic operators. It eliminates some unintended interpretations which exist under the old definition. The author hopes that the new language will be better suited for the design of intelligent agents capable of introspective reasoning with incomplete information.

Symbolic Synthesis for Epistemic Specifications with Observational Semantics

The paper describes a framework for the synthesis of protocols for distributed and multi-agent systems from specifications that give a program structure that may include variables in place of conditional expressions, together with specifications in a temporal epistemic logic that constrain the values of these variables. The epistemic operators are interpreted with respect to an observational se...

Revisiting Epistemic Specifications

In 1991, Michael Gelfond introduced the language of epistemic specifications. The goal was to develop tools for modeling problems that require some form of meta-reasoning, that is, reasoning over multiple possible worlds. Despite their relevance to knowledge representation, epistemic specifications have received relatively little attention so far. In this paper, we revisit the formalism of epis...

Epistemic Equilibrium Logic

We add epistemic modal operators to the language of here-and-there logic and define epistemic hereand-there models. We then successively define epistemic equilibrium models and autoepistemic equilibrium models. The former are obtained from here-and-there models by the standard minimisation of truth of Pearce’s equilibrium logic; they provide an epistemic extension of that logic. The latter are ...

A Knowledge Representation Framework

We introduce a uniform non-monotonic framework for knowledge representation based on epistemic logic which is sufficiently general to encompass several nonmonotonic formalisms, including circumscription, autoepistemic logic, various semantics proposed for logic programs and deductive databases (stable semantics, well-founded semantics and stationary semantics) as well as Gelfond’s epistemic spe...

Bounded Model Checking for Linear Time Temporal-Epistemic Logic

We present a novel approach to the verification of multi-agent systems using bounded model checking for specifications in LTLK, a linear time temporal-epistemic logic. The method is based on binary decision diagrams rather than the standard conversion to Boolean satisfiability. We apply the approach to two classes of interpreted systems: the standard, synchronous semantics and the interleaved s...
